Urge Surfing: Learning to Ride the Wave!

“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”

Urges — whether emotional or behavioral — are a natural part of being human. Anxiety spikes, anger, cravings, the pull to numb, avoid, or react… these experiences rise quickly and can feel overwhelming. But like ocean waves, they build, peak, and pass.

Urge surfing is a mindfulness-based skill that helps you ride out these intense moments without being pulled under.

Instead of fighting the urge or acting on it immediately, we practice:

  • Pausing

  • Noticing the sensation in the body

  • Breathing through it

  • Allowing it to rise and fall naturally

Over time, this strengthens your nervous system, builds emotional tolerance, and helps break reactive patterns. You learn that discomfort is temporary — and survivable.

How I Support You in Session

In our work together, we gently explore your unique triggers and patterns while building practical tools to help you feel steadier and in control.

Using mindfulness, somatic awareness, parts work, and nervous system regulation techniques, I help you:

  • Understand the root of your urges

  • Increase your capacity to feel without shutting down or reacting

  • Build self-trust and emotional resilience

  • Develop personalized strategies for high-intensity moments

We don’t just talk about the wave — we practice riding it together in a safe, supportive space.

Healing is not about eliminating emotions.
It’s about learning how to stay with yourself when they arise.

If you’re ready to build that steadiness, I would be honoured to support you. 🌿
